Tiger and Ali?

Tiger and Ali?

Bill Simmons of ESPN compares the two in his recent article and says that Tiger Woods would have a harder time coming back than Muhammad Ali. He thinks Tiger will have a harder time coming back. Although i like his thorough analysis, if i had to vote – I would disagree!

The reason disagree is that Tiger is a sports performance athlete and is far ahead of the competitors as far as skill is concerned. Yes, he was playing somewhat badly the last few years and still won many championships! My take on this is that Tiger that finally gets on the golf course is a professional. He has taken time to correct or work his personal issues and is a professional enough that when it comes Tee off time, he would be prepared enough and ready to not just contend but to do well.

The only reason he may fall apart is if he cannot be in the “present” (which can be overcome by also training in another area ie meditation) and then he can carry that calm on the golf course. If he is emotionally and mentally not ready, thats the only way i believe he could fall apart.

Personally, notwithstanding his personal conduct (which i have no right or place to judge), i have to  admire the skill with which he is able to dominate the golf course and as we all know now he is become one of the greatest and best of players not just for his time, but all-time!  So, we have to tip our cap off to him in this regard.

If Tiger can meditate and get that aspect of his life cleared, he will come back big time!  Watch out!!!

Curious about what you guys think?

Daily meditationThe yogis present their craft with best of amazing benefits for daily meditation  and  that it be done regularly (preferably daily) for realizing the benefits.  So does Jesus as in  St. Luke in 9:23 .  Also, from my own personal experiences, i can vouch for the practice if its done daily rather than once in a while.  You cannot get much from going lukewarm with it. The meditation component of the yoga practise is one such that can provide amazing benefits for the western world that is so used to  the “go go go” mentality and instant everything from  food to gratification!

So what benefits you might ask?

For starters, i have been able to overcome “medication for life” with daily meditation and have been able to overcome severe serious stresses of life also with daily meditation practice…So, what about you?

Buddha says thus -

“Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”

So, are you too busy, too stressed out at work and deadlines? Are you struggling from cancer recovery? Are you finding you lack balance between work and home? Are you happy making money but too sick to enjoy it? Are you too tired when you get home from work? Do you dread going to work? Do you feel like you are in competition with everyone and everything? Do you feel the world is unfair to you all the time?  There are many more but you get the idea.

The key is because you do not “brush” (meditate)  your “teeth” (brain/mind), it goes with you all day being foul. If you do mediate, you ave benefits that far outweigh any pills, an theories and any one thing out there! The beauty is also that you can further strengthen your faith through its practice.

If you like to learn how to meditate with a live meditation  instructor from the comfort of your home,  we are giving away free meditation sessions for first 10 callers. It takes an hour appointment by phone and skype.

Problems for the mind?

Problems for the mind?

Nobody likes problems! I don’t either! But it appears that problems are for the mind, what exercise is for the body! How?

Well, exercise and working out the muscles, in time makes the body  lean and toned and it looks good. Problems on the other hand are what everybody deals with every day at work and at home. Nevertheless, they are not readily accepted. Regardless of how they are viewed, they give us opportunity to press on and either go around the problems or find ways to overcome the problems. So, in some sense, they keep us on our toes and test us with how badly we intend something that we get stopped at the speed bump called problem. Hmm….

I am not alluding to the fact that there are no genuine problems. There are! However, the mindset on how they are viewed and how they play or not play in the grand scheme of our current goal, takes on newer and newer meaning in time … for the one experiencing it….. perhaps as just part and parcel of  the game!

Is there a game that is played in sport without an opposition? Well, there you go!  In fact Wayne Dyer does not even consider there is a problem. He wrote this awesome book called – There is a Spiritual solution to every problem.

So, what problem? Your take?

Eyes closed?

Eyes closed?

We have heard- “Out of sight, out of mind” used by us to indicate and validate how we live our lives and its possibly  true for most of us. Why ? Because we derive and draw toward and give attention to lot of things we see. Think about it – on a daily basis the things we see from the time we wake up to the time we go to bed…so much happens with the eyes fully functioning! This makes us live externally.

The spiritual leaders however caution us to walk  by faith, not by sight  as St. Paul convicts us or as the yogis recommend a learning and a daily meditation practice that makes one go into the self with eyes closed and really see the infinite potential within which comes from above!

Or as John Lennon said – “Living is easy with your eyes closed”

Or as Helen Keller who was deaf and blind said  - ” People with eyes – do not see” … when i heard that in my 7th grade, i thought Helen was crazy! Now i know what she is talking about.

Also wonder why we close our eyes while praying and also while kissing? Hmmm…..

Where does the movie “Eyes wide shut” fit into all this?

So, we are then doing the opposite of these great people are saying. Seeing and making it the focus of our attention, energy and passion.  Wow!

I can appreciate the sight and gladly use the gift of sight. Its like a tool – do i use it all the time and no time for intro-spection is whats in question and invites an examination.

So,  which is it for you -

Out of sight - out of mind  (OR) In your sight – In your mind ? (OR) something else more profound ?

Curious to hear your thoughts…

yogaThere is lot common between a soldier, an athlete, a yogi and a pastor.  Here are some things i see thats common for these guys -

1> They are disciplined.

2> They do what they do daily and do it in the “present” without the monkey mind distractions of daily rigours or chores!

3> They are passionate and meditate on their craft often!

4> They believe in a mission and have a source for their instruction. They sacrifice other things and give up other  priorities in life for this.

5> They strive to be the best of the best at their craft!

6> They realize  the higher and bigger purpose than themselves! (even an athlete will confess winning a gold medal for their country far outweighs the other world championship medals – they feel honored to represent a tribe, a nation!)

7> They think less and do more!

Now, lets stack up you and me up against this – our day to day with these guys. Do you see why we are so much in the “suffering” or the “struggles” of the day to day? At the end of the day, we all have troubles and struggles, but the ones that seem to do better are the ones that cultivate certain habits as above. We support our clients get better at  personal and professional life. If interested, feel free to contact us – A better you is ahead of you, all what’s really  left to do is totally up to you!

Do we waste time?

Do we waste time?

I am as guilty as the next person in wasting time. My thing was i like a lot of things and so lots of things get my attention. But, we also live in a  real world that means we pay real bills to survive!  We have responsibilities we are held accountable for. We need to put food on the table!

So, here are some tips that can perhaps help you save some time to be more productive and purposeful at one end and also to be more restful and peaceful on the other end. We need this balance. Here is a list that could help you no matter who you are -

1) If you are a lady, you are beautiful as you are! You will realize we admire you for who you are, not how you look! Yes it does not hurt to be well-groomed and presentful. But  Trust me on this,  i cannot speak for all men, but most men (can’t speak for the teenagers or nu-adults either) really admire women who are gifted with work and service than just beauty. So, please do not spend 2-3 hours on make up everytime you go out or to work! Thats about 45 days a year – wow!  Perhaps take up yoga or meditation classes. Or join a volunteer group once weekly or a church program. You are more beautiful that way and i love to watch women who are this way!

2) If you are a man, stop spending 2-3 hours every day in the evenings watching sports. I love sports and watch but not to a point that i am literally wasting my precious time day after day… If you do thats about 45 days a year!  Pick up volunteer projects, home foe the habitat, attend few lectures on getting better, relating to women etc etc… makes you a man, because you show you want to get better!

3) If you are a professional, stop wasting time surfing at work and you end up being stressed out trying to meet the deadlines. Just 30 mins per day of web browsing at work during work time will cost you and your employer approximately 60 hours of productive work. Wow – thats a week and a half! Instead work in the present, be in the present and do your work at work and your browsing at home.  You will get so much more accomplished!

4) If you are a stay at home adult – try to avoid watching TV all the time. Instead pick up a few hobbies, become a part time worker, join a volunteer group, learn new things of interest to you! Above all do not make your daily routine get you to say, i am getting bored. You have only self to blame! :(

6) If you are retired, and  you use your “void” time to contantly put thoughts of being lonely or life being worthless, or why kids dont call etc…this cancer can take you away! Instead pick up a book, go to a library,  join a group or write a book or help students with home work, take up meditation, take walks by the lake.

7) If you are a teenager, enjoy!  There is no advice in the world that can change your view point!  Just remember this, you will never get the fun times and good times from your childhood back! I was told that, i did not believe them! Now i do! You will too…

If you need help and support to be more productive than ever before, feel free to contact the folk at Proactive healthy choices.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts – if any?

Thank you…and Best Wishes,

Linus Eugene

medication drug side effectsWhy medications mostly have side effects? and how to avoid them was covered in part 1 of this blog. We pick up right from there here  in part 2 of the blog on how to avoid the side effects of synthesized prolonged use of medications.

Extreme case is to find all natural ways of healing like the ancient Indian system called Ayurveda or the American Indian amazing ability to find cures from bark, leaves, seeds  and roots of trees and herbs.  A moderate approach is to integrate more and more of natural medicines and to reduce or avoid taking synthesized versions for a long time.  When i was taking medication for brain tumor, i would get tired, i would get dry in the mouth and get edgy. So there you go! Proof positive from personal experiences.

Gradually, i used natural holistic cleansing methods from colonics, from ayurveda panchakarma and meditation to completely overhaul a disease pattern set into my physical body. Meditation, not medication!

It may be hard to get access to natural ways but nowadays there seem to be a big push for natural healing and extracts from holistic and natural ways to get healthy and well for example Olive leaf extract is awesome for building immune system and avoiding scratchy throats and colds because body’s immune system goes through the roof to beat the colds that are lurking around the corner. I vouch for that but even that has a few small side effects for even olive leaf extract which you should consider if you fall in those categories. For me,  i have personally used them and have confidence in its effect and to be one of the best proactive ways to fend off colds.

As always, check out your situation with a regular and a natural doctor  before using any medications.

So, what are your thoughts?

Linus Eugene

medication drug side effectsHere is an opportunity to discuss if  medications have side effects . Most do and the chemicals that are synthesized are  true to their properties but  the difficulty is to test for all scenarios of the side effects. Even sometimes the natural medicines may have them but generally speaking are more applicable for the masses.  For that matter anything is toxic if taken in high dosages. What does that mean? Every chemical has a set way of reacting and interacting with the elements or with each other.  When synthesized by man, somehow the chemicals seem to address one issue but overlook infinite possible others! This opens up for perhaps a solution for one issue and a dis-solution  for surounding cells or organs…

Man can fly in the air like a bird and can swim in the waters like a fish.  He can make drugs that cure him and other creatures but his synthesized versions seem to cause moe side effects than his discovery of natural cures. All this is great except in some sense it can also become a double edged sword! When man abuses nature or when he provides solutions with solely vested interests at heart then those choices are half baked at best and when he finds solutions such as medications they are usually with side effects!  Why ? My guess is that they are for one  a chemical approach to solve a problem and second the chemicals while they address one organ or issue can also possibly hurt other cells or organs especially if taken over a long period.

How to avoid them and more in Part 2 of this blog.

Linus Eugene

oscarsAwards for the best of the best in every field is based on some criteria. To be able to pick one extraordinary performer for an Oscar award may be harder than picking the winning  athlete at the olympic games who clearly wins a race. Regardless of the way the one wins, (judged or visibly observed) they win for being the best of the best! Today, is the 2010 version of the Oscars!

What about us? How can we win a gold medal? or an Oscar award? I believe we too can win when we get a chance to take on life at each and every situation. We have a chance to be kind, rather than right. We have a chance to seek peace than war. We have a chance to  be selfless than selfish. Also, at work, we get to choose and act whats best  for the company instead of whats best for self. These are all occassions you get your invisible “gold medal” for your choices and actions!

Thats just my  POV (point of view)  What do you think?

Thanks,

Linus Eugene

Medication

Medication

Is addiction bad for you? How about addiction to prescription drugs? Before I answer that, kindly permit me to ask another related question – Do you think we are all addicted to something? I’m sure you have an opinion and i respect that. My take on it is that we are all in some sense addicted to something – whether its a drug dealer to sell drugs, or a chronic drug abuser like a Michael Jackson addictions that took over him or like Kurt Cobain  of Nirvana that got him to commit suicide  or for that matter everyone of us, in some sense in some way,  who are  in between!  Speaking of which, what are you addicted to? How about you and me?  Too busy, too lazy? too much procrastination? too much blaming others? too much self criticism? what is it?

My further take is that addiction, is lack of  balance and lack of pursuing the truth more earnestly and patiently but instead just taking the easy way out like popping a pill.

We have gotten so used to popping pills that we need a pill for everything like in Alvin Tofler from several years ago that so rightly predicted the dangers of this pattern.

meditation

meditation

If you like to get away from addictions, i would suggest some action on your part and some support from a trusted friend a professional.  From an action standpoint, meditation does everything a drug does and more! You want proof? See my biography for details.  From a support standpoint, a good professional coach or guide should help tremendously dealing with the deep dark fears of the day!

Also, i have a personal experience that will blow you away! I was put on medication for life after my brain tumor.  To cut to the chase, with dailymeditation and faith, i was able to overcome the professional medical view of  “lifelong” medication but instead completely heal from the problem. I now say – “Meditation – not medication”.  Here is my 2 cents on the two! Medication alters the chemistry of the body to treat a symptom.  Meditation alters the essence of the self to treat the source of the problem. This is what i take away from my life experience that almost took my life in which case, you would not have read these words! :(

I hope you as a reader are also able to see the value in meditation. We do some free meditation sessions online and you should consider to register yourself or someone you know and  meditate with us.

God bless,
